We Waited as Long as We Could
We have been asking around but have not been able to determine when the last time that the 48th Street Club increased the price of 12 ounce of coffee. We know it has been over 25 years, many even 30 years or more since we raised the price of a 12 ounce of coffee to $1.00.
The board has been discussing finances for a few months. We have worked hard to ensure that the club facilities are in good condition and that we have a prudent reserve to ensure that we can handle any unforeseen events. We do this while trying to keep prices as low as possible. Thanks to the work of many volunteers, we can do this. We also do our best to find the cheapest prices possible. For instance, we buy our literature (Big Books, 12×12’s, etc.) to get bulk rates and save on shipping. As much as possible we sell literature at cost. But the cost of what we are paying for goods is increasing across the board. Last year when we ordered soft cover Big Books, we were able to get the bulk rate of $9.02. This year it was $12.35. On top that price the club will send $0.86 to the State of Nebraska for sales Tax and if a customer purchases with a card there will be credit card processing fees and a percentage of sales that goes to our POS provider. We sold soft cover Big Books as a loss last year. The time has come that we need to raise prices on many of the items that we sell. On July 15 the following prices will go into effect:
